Why Ko Racha Yai is special ?

Lying about 20kms south of Phuket, the Racha Islands comprise two islands, Koh Racha Yai and Koh Racha Noi. To confuse matters they are also known as Koh Raya Yai and Koh Raya Noi (Yai means “big” in Thai and as you may have already guessed, noi means “little”).

The islands possess crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches. They are very popular with divers and snorkellers, with challenging dive sites for advanced divers as well as plenty for beginners and snorkellers.

What to explore at Ko Racha Yai?

Once at Racha Yai your feet become your carriage. The island has a small network of dirt paths that link all of the beaches and resorts. You can easily walk from Bungalow Bay to Siam Beach and back again. It takes about 10-12 minutes to walk to the beaches on the other side of the island. Longtail boats are sometimes available for rent to visit other beaches if you are not inclined to walk. Motorbikes can be rented also, but distances are short.

Ko Raya is the perfect destination if you're looking to escape the more popular (and busier) Phuket. You'll find picture-perfect bays, white beaches, waving coconut palms and a turquoise sea with some fantastic coral reefs. It's also a great place to learn to dive, so you can book an introductory dive during your stay.

Was here with my family, including my mum aged 60 and a 2 years old niece. We came here following the island hoping tour from Phuket island. It took us around 2 hours on speed boat to reach here from Phuket. Upon arrival, we were enlighten by the beautiful scenery around. We walked from the pier to a small wooden hut which is the place for lunch. Walking distance around less than 1km but I think it's longer than 500m. They have only few houses on the island and less than 10 motor vehicle on the island. These motor vehicle are use mainly for transporting tourist from the pier to the beach front. The beach is really very beautiful, very clean, white sand and warm sun. Spent a day there and I will return for a relaxing tour.
