We found this place whilst going through our 'bucket list' of japanese food. Whilst I had shabu shabu before I never tried it in such setting. The restaurant is very formal and the waiter quite promptly took over the coordination of the meal whilst instructing us what to do in Japanese. Needless to say we understood none of it, but picked up on the motions. As some other reviewers noted it did feel a bit stressful. From the beef options we have gone for the medium grade and it seemed to be a good choice. The accompanying vegetables, along with the beef, made for a sizeable meal. Overall it was on the pricey side of things. Would I go back? Yes, certainly. While it might be a bit difficult for someone who doesn't speak Japanese the staff seemed friendly if a bit stringent with their adherence to the setting and certainly showed no offence at our lack of understanding of the proper conduct of the meal. It was also quite informative as we went later to another place and could handle the proper process of food preparation on our own. Visited January 2016

My family and relatives celebrate a double birthday in February and this time we chose the Kisoji restaurant in Shinjuku (building just close to the Isetan department store on Shinjuku dori). The restaurant is situated on the fifth and fourth floor. Since we were nine persons we were guided to the fourth floor dining area (somehow bigger than the entrance level dining area). As menu we chose the 'Hanamizuki' which is kind of Kaiseki ryori at an affordable price (JPY 3,200 plus 8% VAT per person). The quality of the food was very good and the service provided was excellent. Since it was a birthday party lunch event we did bring, with the permission of the Kisoji management, our own cake which was handed over to the restaurant staff to be served later. In our party of 9 persons were two kids (6 and 3 years old) which were given some special food (lighter and more suitable for kids). It was as pleasant lunch which we all really enjoyed.
