Why Ketagalan Culture Center is special ?

The Ketagalan Culture center introduces the various Pingpu indigenous tribes of Taiwan, including the now extinct northern Taiwan Ketagalan tribe. In addition to the exhibit areas, the center has an art gallery, spacious international conference room, and classroom areas serving various functions.

The culture center is named after the extinct aboriginal people who originally inhabited Beitou. It is said that 200 Ketagalan people populated Beitou at the beginning of the Japanese colonial era, but none survived. The museum gives a broad overview of the history of 14 different Taiwanese aboriginal groups, with displays of the tools and dress used at the time

The museum is generally very quiet, especially on weekdays, so you can take your time and enjoy the exhibits. The staff at the museum are impossibly friendly and will most likely insist on giving you a personal guided tour!

What to explore at Ketagalan Culture Center?

This ten-story building is dedicated to educating people about Taiwan’s Aborigines. The Ketagalan Culture Center is the first in Taiwan to give a holistic introduction on the fourteen Aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. Be culturally-immersed by the various collections of indigenous arts, clothing, folk songs, artifacts, musical instruments and utensils showcased on the second and third floors. While you’re there, you must see the "In Front of Tashan" video to listen to each tribe’s teachings from their elders. On the sixth floor lies a library that houses books, magazines and music on aboriginal topics. A conference hall is on the fourth and fifth floors. Research classrooms are found on the eighth and ninth floors. Furthermore, administrative offices are on the top floor. - Maria Tan
