Why Kawasan Falls is special ?

Kawasan Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in Cebu and is located in Barangay Matutinao, Badian at the southwest part of the province. It is also just an hour away from Moalboal, which makes it an ideal nature side-trip after a day at the beach. Kawasan has two main waterfalls that are both deep enough for swimming. The first set of falls has a height of over 40 meters, while the second set has a wider area with a height of 20 meters. There is a small third falls a few kilometers away from the second one but is rarely frequented by tourists.

The water from the Kawasan Falls comes from the Kabukalan Spring and passes through the Matutinao River and Tanon Strait (Wikipedia Article). The Kawasan Falls is managed by the local government, they work hand-in-hand with the locals to make sure that waterfalls is regularly maintained and well-preserved.

What to explore at Kawasan Falls?

The Falls at Kawasan are a three-tiered cascade falls fed by crystal clear mountain springs and situated in the midst of a lush background of tropical plants and trees.

From the car park you have a 15-20 minute walk along a fairly level and slightly uphill path, crossing three small bridges on your way to the main waterfall.

Take a dip in the refreshingly cool (cold) and clear waters, ride the raft or let the falling water massage your body, this really is a beautiful way to relax and enjoy a very special day in paradise.

The first set of falls is the largest of the three; you can opt to trek further up hill for another 15-20mins where you will discover the second and third falls.

There are a couple of restaurants serving hot snacks and drinks etc. located by the main falls so no need to go hungry.

Our Kawasan Falls Cebu South Countryside Tour also includes stops at San Fernando Church, the Shamrock Otap Outlet and Carcar shoe outlet, featuring the world’s biggest shoe (single shoe that is).

Tips for you

  • Try one of the local delicacies on your way to Kawasan Falls. The Carcar Chicharon and the Shamrock Otap are both very popular among Cebuanos.
    Things to do
  • There is a resort and restaurant within the area but according to other posts it’s a bit overpriced. But you could also bring your own food and drinks.
  • If you are bringing a lot of things to the first waterfalls, you can hire one of the locals to help you carry them for around ₱100 ($2.20) – Avoid paying them upfront and only pay them after you are settled in the main area.
  • The nature forest trail to the first main waterfalls is an uphill trek about 1.5 kilometers long. Be sure to pack lots of fluids
    What to bring
  • During the evening, there are no lamp posts on the trail back to the Matutinao Church so it is advisable to also pack a flashlight when you visit.
    What to bring
  • Bring sunblock, swimsuits, extra change of clothes. There are toilets and changing rooms in the area.
    What to bring
  • Wearing hiking sandals would be advisable especially when it’s raining or going up to the second and third falls. You will want that extra friction on your feet.
    What to wear
  • The pool of the first waterfalls is deep so if you don’t know how to swim, you could rent a life vest for P50.00
  • All those who wish to swim are advised to wear their life jackets. Take precaution and avoid unnecessary jumping to avoid accidents.
  • The vehicle will be parked outside the Park entrance where your group will be asked to pick a local guide.
  • Aside from the gift shop, there are several vendors and stalls that sells very affordable printed t-shirts, beaded necklaces, and other Kawasan Falls souvenirs in the area.

The best waterfalls I've been to so far. Well maintained. Thumbs up! ?

When rafting. Ask first on how much you'll pay. Payments for the other boatmen cost more than the raft itself.

I visited the falls with my girlfriend. The falls themselves were beautiful and a sight to behold. Sadly a guide followed us everywhere and hassled us about money. We hired one of the rafts and were told it was 300 pesos. After the guides told us we owed them 200 peso each for pushing the raft. We complained and they changed their story saying it was a tip. They lied and said they had told us about this beforehand. This was untrue. So if you go be careful.

this is good for nature-lovers. basically, you get to badian and then walk your way to the falls for approximately 30 mins from the highway. when you see the waters you would definitely want to take a dip or ride a raft and have the water fall on your body.
