Why Karu's Indian Banana Leaf Restaurant is special ?

Fish Head Curry, Masarla chicken and fish roe with curry leaf are must die die must try

Another good side dish to order is the fish and potato cutlet. It is very savoury and satisfying accompaniment to your curry rice.

After lunch, do remember to wash all the spices down with some Masala Tea. The Tea here is very good, well balanced with the spices and a nice and creamy mouth feel. A fitting end to an excellent meal.

Reasonable price for Indian food. Better than the ones we had in little India. A place to visit again.

This place is in the middle of nowhere, in a row of shophouses with no proper parking. One would miss it if you don't look properly. This place has been around for generations and even though not so convenient, it was packed. It's nice to eat Indian, faraway from the normal places and prices more reasonable. Had the fish head curry on banana leaf. Lots of food.

When we lived in Singapore in the 90's Karu's was a regular Sunday lunch destination. The family would have the staple of a vegetarian meal plus extras such as fish roe, fish cutlets and mutton curry. On special occasions, fish head curry would be ordered.Coming back after a long while, the quality and standard of service has not suffered. The prices a a bit higher but not by much.I would say this is one of the most reasonably priced Indian/Banana leaf curry houses on the island!

Karu's was recommended to some friends by their friends and this group have collectively known Singapore for a very long time. I am freshman but if they say that it was an authentic Singapore experience then I am not going to doubt them. The location looks nothing special, especially at night, on a row of garages, electrical contractors etc and the inside is not designed to shine, with formica topped tables and canteen chairs. But the clue, as I waited for my mates to arrive, is the flow of locals collecting takeaways and the range of nationalities eating up inside. We plonked ourselves next to an Asian couple and took their advice, ordering chicken curry which got plonked from a big pot onto our banana leaf along with whatever rice, sauce, and side dish we selected. Then we tucked in with our fingers and finally sat back, stuffed, and wearing smiles. And all, with beers etc, for about ten singapore dollars each.
