Why Karon Temple Night Market is special ?

Karon Temple, which its compound covers approximately 12,000sqm, and twice a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays) becomes a lively market at which visitors can find a great choice of products, and local food, giving a real insight into local culture. Karon Market is, on a smaller scale, similar to the famous Phuket Weekend Market held in Phuket Town’s southern suburb every Saturday and Sunday.

Karon Market, like most outdoor markets in Phuket, starts late afternoon when the heat of the day dissipates. Any visitor to the Karon Beach area should have a look at this picturesque market and enjoy a glimpse of southern Thailand’s local life: even if most of the products are tourist-oriented, the feeling and atmosphere of the place is genuinely Thai.

What to explore at Karon Temple Night Market?

A very easy to visit market if you stay near Karon beach, the Karon temple market takes place in the temple grounds on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the late afternoon/evening. It’s a mix of fresh produce, snacks and food, clothes and a few tourist-aimed stalls selling sunglasses or swimwear.

Besides the obvious shopping mentioned above, there are a few stalls displaying real original items, skillfully handcrafted by Thai artists, which show a more interesting side of the ability to create something from scratch. Two examples are cleverly done small ‘robots’ made of electric wires and springs, and beautifully knitted Teddy Bears and dolls. Other articles, such as natural skin treatment products like aloe vera and virgin coconut oil, and cosmetics can also be found at Karon Market.

Awesome. Great flea market prices but we go for the food. This is local, finger food-well, walk around with a box and spoon. Never had a bad experience with the for and we eat everything. Truly the best and cheapest eats in Karon, so don't miss this true Thai experience. Try the chicken schnitzel on a stick and curry with rice for under 50 baht. The pork ribs are to die for, priced per kg. Get into the local culture and food.

The Karon Temple Market is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 4pm. There is a handful of food vendors at the entrance to the markets, where you can find seasonal fruit and various skewered meats. (Loved the fried Sweet Potato Balls.) Inside the markets are quite similar to others, except that there does seem to be a fair number of fixed price vendors. I would recommend going here to get an idea of prices before hitting any of the street front shops. Watches, Bags, Clothes, Shoes and Souvenirs can all be found here. Well worth a visit, especially if you are staying in Karon.
