Why Kaikaya is special ?

The chef as well as the owner of Kaikaya combines his love and passion of seafood to give people the stunning menu of food and drinks. Kaikaya isn’t exactly considered an authentic Japanese Izakaya considering the restaurant’s food is somewhat unconventional Japanese with a slight Western influence and is super popular amongst the foreign residents of Tokyo. Note that the restaurant is not exactly at Shibuya central. It takes about 20 minutes away from Shibuya. You also can get to Keio line from Shibuaya to Shinsen Station because Kaikaya is next to Shinsen Station. One more advantage is the dynamic and helpful staff. All is magical!

How to get to Kaikaya?

Take either the Tokyo Metro (Ginza, Hanzomon, or Futokoshin lines), JR, or the Keio Inokashira line to Shibuya station and walk about 10-15 minutes to Kaikaya. Shinsen station on the Keio Inokashira line is also a short walk away from the restaurant.

My Japanese friend Hiro recommended me to this restaurant in Shibuya, me and my wife booked through our hotel customer service counter. The waiter recommended us to take their set dinner menu which my wife was quite skeptical about it, but finally one by one the dishes that they served surprises us, it has a blend of traditional Japanese with many other spices which make the food there so different and excellent, the waiters Masa and Rio who are actually the chef himself serving us cheerfully, will definitely going back again if I'm in Tokyo!

Relaxed and pleasant environment, great variety of food at reasonable prices. If you like fish and seafood and want a break from traditional Japanese cousine, this is a great choice. The place is recommended by most of the Tokyio tourist guides, so make a reservation and be prepared to bump into a lot of westerns!

We were taken there by a friend and will never forget it.We ordered a menu including: gambas in sweet sauce, chicken salad, tuna ribs, sashimi, fish soap. Everything was pitch perfect and the waiters were thrilled with our compliments. We accompanied everything with umeshu soda and then with cold sake. We wrapped up the evening with a delicious green tea cheesecake, which was also part of the menu we had ordered. We don't have a sweet tooth but it rocked our world!Reservation is required in the evening because the place is rather small (and extremely noisy, by the way). There's a non-smokers room two doors down but it's normally emptier than the smokers room, which gives direct view over the kitchen. For the amount of food we chowed down, the price was quite reasonable.
