Why Jumbo Kingdom is special ?

The Jumbo Floating Restaurant together with the Tai Pak, are Hong Kong's iconic Floating Palaces. They have been in movies, are frequented by luminaries, movie stars and royalty, and are a common sight in tourist brochures and postcards. They have been around since the 1950's and are very much a part of the Hong Kong scene. Hong Kong's floating restaurants are multi-story structures, decorated in the traditional imperial Chinese style, that is lots of dragons, pagodas and red and gold decorations, the colors that traditionally represent the empire, prosperity and good fortune. The Jumbo is the larger of the two and is able to accommodate up to 2,000 diners. There is a walkway that connects it to the Tai Pak and both restaurants are managed by the same conglomerate and form Jumbo Kingdom, in itself a tourist attraction with a range of entertainment, shopping and of course dining attractions.

    What to bring
  • - Sometimes you have a chance and spot some local and international movie or singers. - May be sometimes you can get a chance to meet some celebrities and stars. - If you arrive by a taxi. You should ask the taxi driver for receipt. Keeping your receipt and show it before paying your bills at the restaurants.
  • - Don’t come here for the food. While the kitchen is good, the food is overpriced. It’s mid range prices at higher end prices and for the same price you could eat in one of Hong Kong’s better restaurants and enjoy really superb food. - Don’t let the grumbles about this place being a tourist trap put you off. It is a tourist trap but it’s also a lot of fun. - You can have cake-cutting. Its cost is 100$.

Visited last May. We saw it on our night harbour cruise and it looked amazing - all lit up with non-stop boat traffic delivering customers. It looked fun. We went for lunch the next day and it was entertaining just to get there, be seated and eat! Not the sort of place I would normally visit but curiosity got the better of me. The meal was ok - service hit and miss but we had so much fun just watching the frenetic activity of the waiting staff and customers - it was organized chaos! We actually really had a great lunch. Well worth a visit - I've never seen or been to anything like it.
