Why Jeongbang Waterfall is special ?
Jeongbang Falls (정방폭포) is only water fall in Asia that falls directly into the ocean. On the wall of the water fall, there is an inscription written “Seobulgwacha”, referring to Seobul passing by this place. Seobul was a servant of the Chinese Emperor Jin (BC 259~210) who was ordered by the Emperor to find the substance that would make him immortal. Seogwipo is also said to have gotten its name to mean Seobul headed back west. Jeongbang Waterfall is situated by a high cliff by the sea, and an old evergreen stands there leaning back as if it would fall into the ocean. Go east for about 300 meters and you will see another waterfall called Sojeongbang Waterfall. It is a great place to relax during the summer. There is an observatory at the top of the cliff, from which you can command a fine view of the sea.
What to explore at Jeongbang Waterfall?
There’s a platform midway down to take in the whole scene and get some all-encompassing shots of the 23 meter high waterfall shooting over the cliff and falling to the rocks below that lead to the ocean. The whole area is pretty impressive
The seventy-two-feet-high Jeongbang Falls is the only waterfall in Asia that flows directly into the ocean. Though swimming is not recommended, visitors can wade out into the water; when the tide is low it's possible to get quite close to waterfall. On the rocks near the water is an excellent spot for a picnic lunch, or at the top of the cliffs where you can see another nearby waterfall (Sojeonbong) and take in surrounding views at the observatory
While walking to Jeongbang Falls, you can see a group of ajumas. They are Haenyeo which are sea divers, diving for seaweeds, sea cucumber & abalone.
If you are interested, you can taste fresh abalone sashimi with garlic slices & hot pepper paste as dipping.

Tips for you
Give yourself over to the wonderful, the incredible, the splendor that is Jeongbang Falls
“A unique waterfall” For the last day of our Jejueco tour, the first attraction we visited in the morning was Jeongbang waterfall. Situated on a high cliff by the sea, Jeongbang waterfall is the only waterfall in Asia to fall into the sea. Admission fee is 2,000 won for individuals and 1,600 won per person if you are in a group of 10 or more. When we finally reached our destination, to actually get up-close to Jeongbang waterfall, we had to walk down some (more) steep steps and make our way over a field of rocks/boulders. It was a pretty slippery (and uneven) walk, so make sure you wear footwear with good grip. But the walk was worth it: the sight of the waterfall emptying itself right into the sea which makes it a pretty unique and amazing (since we don’t really have such waterfalls in Singapore).
