Back when this statue was built, it was perceived as a future tourist destination and icon of Surabaya tourism.Unfortunately, being located in the middle of active naval base, complete with its tight security and series of security checkpoints, it means that very little tourists could visit this place. Only those that have access to the inside of naval base can visit this statue. And that is limited to few Indonesians as no foreigner could enter the place where this statue is located.Although this statue have some identical features as Liberty statue in US (such as viewing deck on the top of the statue, and museum on its foundation), and it's head is taller than Liberty statue, its high security location rendered it as a failed tourist object. At one point there was a talk of opening up the statue for public, unfortunately it failed to materialize.
Good for educational and visiting. Dont forget to take picture of it
