Why Indonesia in Miniature Park (Taman Mini Indonesia Indah) is special ?

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah or Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park is an extensive culture-based park, the prime showcase of Indonesia’s rich cultural and natural diversity located in East Jakarta.

Popularly known as Taman Mini, the core of the Park are 26 exclusive replicas of traditional houses of chieftains found throughout the Indonesian archipelago from Aceh to Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java and Papua. These are pavilions displaying the history, arts and crafts and traditions of each of the provinces. Built for education and family fun, Taman Miini has large areas for family recreation, a number of flora and fauna parks, various museums, performing theatres, an Imax theatre and accommodation facilities.

What to explore at Indonesia in Miniature Park (Taman Mini Indonesia Indah)?

It also has its own orchid garden in which hundreds of Indonesian orchid varieties are grown. There is also a bird park with a walk-in aviary, a fauna museum and recreational grounds with a swimming pool and restaurants. The special interest here at Taman Mini is the Museum Indonesia. A richly decorated building in Balinese architecture, it houses contemporary arts, crafts and traditional costumes from the different regions of the country.

Cultural performances, events, and even local delicacies from the provinces are prepared regularly, especially during weekends and holidays, to showcase Indonesia's rich cultural heritage. The park is open seven days a week, giving guests ample time to explore and enjoy the sights. And if a day tour is not enough, visitors can spend the night at the 'Desa Wisata' or 'Wisata Remaja' serviced accommodations.

Nearby is a large lake with islands in the shapes of the original Indonesian archipelago. From the sky lift that passes over the lake visitors can see clearly the entire map of Indonesia in the lake.

The Park has as chief mission the preservation and development of the various Indonesian cultures as a media to strengthen the nation’s unity and integrity and to instill these values especially in the young generation.

For visitors who have little time to explore the Indonesian islands, Taman Mini is a good introduction to what this country has to offer in diversity and culture. During weekends and holidays Taman Mini is an ideal theme park for families to become more acquainted with other regional cultures.

Just today, i visit TMII after a long time never visit. It was, a lot of visitor. In some area there was marriage function too. For today, there was some attraction, some dancer from each tribe or province was dance. They were perform in front of army and government. I just see the dancing from many people feom upside using skytrain. Actually, we'd like to go arround using monorail, but the train stop shelter really far from the B skytrain station. It was many rework, renovation for some traditional house in some province. And the one that really make dissapointed, many rubbish was put in everywhere. Near the skytrain shelter, there were a lot of rubbish. Is it really represent Indonesia nowadays? Who would like to start and clean all the messy rubbish? For the paeking area, there also difficult to find free space in a weekend time.

After a long 1.5 hrs drive from Jakarta to this place you really have nothing much to do. The place is frequented by locals and is more a fair like atmosphere. there is hardly any information flowing in English ( Typically Jakarta) and left wondering what you would want to do here. Even the information desk was hardly any help. Not knowing the language is your fault. Just to take a shuttle ride through this whole place is also a dicey affair as you do not know the schedule, you do not know where they stop. The small open vans stop adhoc and mostly people ready to jump in. Finally took a cable gondola ride which looked the most sensible thing to do as it was the least crowded ( may be beacaus eit was the most expensive). Best to take gondola from point a to B and then get down at b and do B to c. the ride is triangular so you can see both sides of the park. However the desk will not tell you that and hand you a to b and back to 'A' and while you return you can see the other part of the cable and keep cursing - Who cares anyways! The gondola does give you good views of all that there is in the park though you lose the option of stopping for a close look. i wud'nt go there again though.
