Why Ikkaku is special ?
Ikkaku, originating in Kagawa prefecture on Shikoku island, is an institution. It started back in 1952 and has been delighting carnivores ever since, gradually expanding across Japan in the process. Admittedly there are other things than chicken on the menu, but the winner at Ikkaku is most definitely the 'young chicken' (hinadori) leg. You will see tray after tray rushed out of the kitchen, and even some in boxes for take-out. The chicken itself hides under crispy golden skin and is steaming and succulent, begging you to tear into it like an animal.

Tips for you
Found this restaurant via Tripadvisor itself by sorting the best restaurant serving Japanese food at a reasonable price in Yokohama. Ikkaku came out top and all the good reviews were in Japanese. The shop is quite difficult to find as it is located on 6th floor of a building near Yokohama station. I am the only foreigner visiting the shop and fortunately the staff able to speak basic English. All the menu were in Japanese and I know people come here for their chicken dish. Do expect to wait around 20 minutes for them to prepare the roast chicken. The meal is worth waiting. The roast chicken here is excellent. The meat were so tender and flavourful. Although a bit oily, but the taste were so good and melts in your mouth. Slightly spicy and salty which goes well with rice. If you prefer to have it with beer, it is well recommended. The chicken thigh price at 890 Yen. I add rice, soup and pickles at 400 Yen. The chicken here is delicious! It goes well with a large beer. The edamame pairs quite well with the chicken & beer. Expect a 20~40 minute wait after 17:00. I think it's well worth it.
