Why Hot spring Street Xingyi Road is special ?

Hot springs in Tienmu originate in LongFong Valley. When spring waters reveal a beige color, this is referred to as a white mineral springs. Tienmu's hot springs district is located between Dun Xu High School and Tienmu Park. The natural heat from underground mostly gathers in the valleys on the east side of XingYi Road. Several years ago, when the Beitou hot springs craze started fading, residents began opening Taiwan indigenous chicken restaurants on this street. Going to SaMaoShan for Taiwan indigenous chicken and a hot springs soak became a popular trend for many people at the time.

Tips for you

  • It is highly recommended that you read through the warning notices before entering a pool.
    Safety
  • The spring water in Beitou is acidic, so don't wear anything that could be damaged by acid, such as pearls.
    Safety
  • While sitting in a pool, it is best to stay hydrated with water or sports drink, while avoid the consumption of alcohol. On colder days, dry your body with towels after being in the hot pool. Wrap yourself up in a bath towel and rest for a while. This is a good time to relax your muscles through simple yoga moves or massage. Try to work up a bit of sweat to radiate heat inside your body. At this time, slowly get dressed, avoiding putting all your clothing on too quickly
    Health
  • Those who have sensitive skin or a history of skin problems should consult their doctor about the type of spring water suitable for their skin type.
    Health
  • Spring water has a lot of minerals and metals. Therefore, it is not recommended that you wash your hair with it. Wash your hair after you leave the pool with clean water, then dry it immediately. It is a good idea to dry one's hair right after washing, to avoid catching a cold.
    Health
  • Many hot springs visitors enjoy jumping between hot and cold water. However, if done incorrectly, this can also be risky, as sudden temperature changes can put a lot of stress on your cardiovascular system. The proper way to is to ensure that the difference between the water temperatures is 20 degrees Celsius. Be sure not to jump directly from a hot pool into a cold-water pool.
    Health
  • People with high blood pressure, heart disease or open wounds should not enter the baths.
    Health
  • Guests have the option of a private room or a public onsen. Public onsen is strictly in the nude.
    Service
  • Hot springs water should not be overheated. Before entering a spa pool, always shower, then splash some spring water onto the body. This will help your body adjust to the temperature of the hot springs water.

The river that flows along this beautiful street can get steamy at times. If you're in a public mood, why not try the public springs? It's cheap. It's communal. It's full of sights.Otherwise, there is a plethora of hot spring hotels that flank the street. They range from cheap, and affordable, to crazy expensive. Don't worry, no one will try to trick you into staying at a 15000 nt hotel. They show their prices when you enter, or ask.If you're in a park and people watch mood, there is a nice park in the middle of this street, complete with fountains, monuments, and a museum.Bring a friend, bring a date, or bring the family. Hot Spring Street is a novel way to spend an afternoon.

There are a couple dozen fantastic beer houses (restaurants) along this road, the food is uniformly superb at all of them. Best experienced in summer as a cool breeze at the end a hot day. Many places have facilities for a private hot springs soaking. I actually like the pungent foul-smelling rotten egg odor coming from the dormant volcano this area sits on, because I am now conditioned to associate it with the good food and giant mugs of beer you get, although I wonder if Taipei will survive if the volcano ever erupts.

Living now 3 years in Taipei, i go to one of the two most popular ones in the lowest part of this area (bigger is the Huang-Tse; smaller the Chwan-Tan, but this one with excellent massage) at least once a month, desirable would be weekly. Men and women have separate areas.Easy public transport access till over 10 p.m., useful for way there in summer nights (better to avoid daytime stay in the hot season of the year). Quite packed on winter weekend and holiday afternoons, sometimes people queue. Usually very few non-Asian foreigners, but locals give you - with the famous Taiwanese friendliness - all the advice you may need.Good to stay 2 - 3 hrs, take enough water or tea with you - and a towel. Eating in the associated restaurants next door awards you with free coupon for hot springs (to be used within 2 weeks or so). Reception offers also free taxi call, never waited over 10 min. Free shuttles to the car parkings, the walk is maybe 5 min. (parkings are in the valley a bit upstream).Coming by metro, exit at Shipai and take bus 508, 535 to Shingyi Rd. 3rd stop. Bus goes up the hills, from bus stop walk downhill into the bottom of river valley. All signposting in Chinese, with exception on signs on the main road. The sources are 1 - 2 km upstream, it is a nice hike from a later bus stop. Another hiking trail is accessible next to the parkings. Water in the springs has differing properties and medicinal effects, but the odor is strong for oversensitive individuals.Although locals go mostly in the colder half of the year, i recommend summer cool evenings or nights, as a welcome escape from the city's humid heat. It is a surprisingly distinct difference.
