Why Hoian Silk Village is special ?
The Hoi An Silk village in Quang Nam is justifiably famous as a hub for silk making and trading in the region. Leisurely stroll through the lush garden of mulberry trees as our expert guides teach you about the history of Quang Nam and the silk making process. Additionally, visitors will be shown the life cycle of silkworms in action! Visitors can help harvest mulberry leaves, feed silkworms and even watch as silkworms weave their cocoons. Guests will then be shown how cocoons are transformed into silk thread and how the silk is treated and refined to become ready for clothing. And of course, visitors will end the tour in our silk showroom where they'll receive a hands-on tutorial on deciphering between true and synthetic silk.
What to explore at Hoian Silk Village?
The Hoi An Silk Village breathes new life into the 300 year-old history of the Maritime Silk Road. The Village is surrounded by verdant mulberry gardens, lotus ponds and horticulture farms. Paths wind through the gardens and ancient houses, built in typical Quang Nam architecture, providing a serene atmosphere that carries you to the days of old.
The Village employs a dozen artisans that manufacture and weave silk into various garments and tapestries using ancient looms. Beyond discovering the ancient silk manufacturing process, visitors are also welcome to enjoy our restaurant and tailor showroom.
Scarves and dresses made of silk are on display throughout the village, showing off the traditional craft of the residents.
Visitors also have the chance to learn something about the fabric-weaving method of the Cham ethnic minority people as well as see special products of the area.

Learning about silk. Silk material.
Great to learn the whole process. Lovely silk but designs not always for non local tastes.
Really fun experience!
Quà lưu niệm đẹp: đũa mĩ nghệ và chén gáo dừa. Hàng lụa mắc, không đáng mua.
We cycled out to the village this lunchtime, and were greeted on arrival and offered their short or long tour, the main difference being the inclusion of food.Ling toured us around, giving us a light hearted insight to the traditional silk harvesting and weaving methods and answered our questions with pleasure. The tour lasted an hour and as others have said, a retail area at the end with no pressure to buy. Fabrics, scarves, clothing and accessories- some beautiful pieces. Would recommend- happy to support such a place, a little outside the old town but worth a trip.
We caught the hotel bus to the Silk Village and were offered a short or long tour. We opted for the short tour which went for an hour or so, costing 100,000 dong for adults and 50,000 for kids which included a welcome drink. The tour was very interesting and while there is a shop to purchase from, there was no pressure to buy anything (which makes a nice change in Vietnam!)Overall an enjoyable and interesting couple of hours that I would recommend.
Our tour spent a morning here.It was actually fascinating. We saw the silk worms in each stage of development, and also learned each stage of the silk-making process. They demonstrate everything with real worms. We also saw old-fashioned looms, and learned how the silk was woven. They also do hand embroidery here, and we saw demonstrations on that as well. In that embroidery area you can buy embroidered goods. I bought a table cloth. When the tour was finished, we were directed into their retail area, where they have examples of all kinds of clothes that they will make for you out of the silk. I think a guy from our tour had an entire suit made in less than 24 hours there--and it turned out gorgeous. He wanted a western cut suit, and they didn't have any patterns for that, but he sketched out what he wanted and they made it and it worked out well. But Hoi An is full of tailors, and so I wouldn't necessarily jump on buying something here--shop around. I think you will probably pay too much at this factory for tailor made clothes--but it is convenient to do the tour and just have something made there if you are short on time.Be aware that this is a business where they are selling you products first, a tourist place to see the silkworms second. I didn't mind, but that kind of thing is good to know in advance.
