Why Hello Dolly is special ?
The staffs are friendly , attentive, surprisingly speaks perfect English, originally from California. The ambience was romantic, velvet cushioned chairs, lacquered furniture, dim yellow lighting, and a low quiet hum of jazz music in the background.
It looks like a place you could ask for your record in. Genuine atmosphere and a great place to unwind.
The place was small, but had a great atmosphere to it. There were probably no more than 12 seats to listen to the music, all around one long table. There was also a good mix of white tourists and Japanese people, so you will feel like this was actually somewhere the locals go
The decor and atmosphere here was just wonderful with lovely jazz playing in the background.

Tips for you
This accidental find was a highlight of our Kyoto stay. The music was so wonderful that it got my knee tapping the moment it started, and the whiskey selection was just overwhelming. We tried 3 different whiskeys and loved every single one. There is a cover charge from 8:00pm (from memory) but it's worth it given how wonderful the music is. The bartender will hand carve your cube of ice into a perfect sphere right before your eyes, which I thought was a wonderful touch. Its dimly lit, extremely warm (it was snowing out the night we went) and so inviting. We had such a wonderful time. Any lover of Whiskey &/or Jazz must put this place on their list!
Sit at the bar & order a Yamazaki. Even if you prefer no ice, watching the drink get made with ice is fun. The gin buck is also great, but not Japanese. Smoking is allowed but still loved this place!
