Why Hakoneen Aquarium is special ?
Hakone-en Aquarium is both a fresh-water and salt water aquarium in Hakone-en, Hakone. Hakone-en Aquarium is said to be the highest salt water aquarium in Japan. Hakone-en Aquarium displays over 2,000 rare fresh-water fish from 150 species including the so called 'living fossil', protopterus, the African Lungfish. The saltwater section of the Hakone-en Aquarium features a massive tank measuring 17 m wide, 11m front to back and 7 m deep. This tank displays over 20,000 salt-water fish and some penguins.
This aquarium is home to 450 species of fish, about 32,000 fish in total, collected from the oceans and lakes of the world. Hakone-en Aquarium features salt-water and fresh-water aquariums and Baikal Seal Square. How about a wondrous stroll through this aquarium in the forests of Hakone to meet some joyful friends.
What to explore at Hakoneen Aquarium?
Visiting Hakone-en Aquarium, you can admire over 2,000 rare fresh-water fish from 150 species including the so called 'living fossil', protopterus, the African Lungfish. Moreover, this tank displays over 20,000 salt-water fish and some penguins. There is also the "Baikal Seal Square" attraction on the edge of Lake Ashi (outside of the aquarium) which is popular with the passing crowds.
Divers raise the bait to fish in the aquarium in the "sea show", you can enjoy a lively swimming of fish.
You can see the Sunken ship lying on the ocean floor to plug from the surface of the water. Large aquarium fish living in coral reef swim around, like a scene from the movie of the Age of Discovery though.

About 70 minutes from Odawara Atsugi road west Odawara IC
Hakone Tozan Railway Hakone Yumoto Station, get off, about 1 hour Hakone garden bound bus, get off immediately end point
In the case of bus
And immediately get off at Hakone-en Odakyu Hakone Highway Bus from Shinjuku Station West Exit

Tips for you
This is a great aquarium. There are lots of fascinating things to view, including Japanese spider crabs, sharks, a beluga whale, penguins, jellyfish (in a tank that produces wonderful colour effects), seals, and lots more. A great place to visit,particularly if the weather isn't great!
