Why Hakone Detached Palace is special ?
Onshi Hakone Park is situated on a peninsula that juts into Lake Ashi. The Hakone Imperial Villa was built here in 1886 as a summer retreat for the Imperial family and also to accommodate their foreign dignitary guests. The park today features a number of walking trails centered around the lakeside observation tower and the Benten no Hana observatory, offering superb views of Lake Ashi and the nearby mountains, including Mt. Fuji.
What to explore at Hakone Detached Palace?
Only a relatively small and simple building remains of the former palace complex. It is surrounded by a beautiful park, known as Onshi Hakone Park, which offers nice walking trails and scenic views of Lake Ashinoko and Mount Fuji, if visibility permits. Visibility tends to be better during the colder seasons of the year than in summer, and in the early morning and late evening hours.
How to get to Hakone Detached Palace?
Hakone Detached Palace is located on the peninsula between Moto-Hakone and Hakone-machi. It can be reached from either town in a 10 to 15 minute walk.
