Why Grasshopper Adventures Day Tours by Bicycle is special ?

Having worked in tourism for a long time we know there are plenty of companies out there that run the same trips with such regularity that they have lost their true connection with the destination. Then there are the other companies that just grab an established tour company brochure and replicate what already exists. That's not us. We carefully craft every tour we offer, making sure that we are not compromising on our goal of getting you out into a country to truly experience everything that makes it tick - the good the bad and the smelly.

Fresh air, friendly people, postcard views and children calling out "hello" as you cycle by. You cannot help being drawn into this view of the friendly Cambodian people. Our tour leader Amon was excellent. Nice to get away from the busy city. This should be on your list of "must dos" when you visit Phnom Penh.

Enjoyed a great bicycle trip with Grasshopper booked through our lovely hotel (the Pavilion) over to the other side of the river by ferry, leaving from their office near the river area. Then onto 2 x mekong islands cycling past farms, villages etc-so close to PP but so different. Stopped at a family weaving business under the typical rural home. Younger family members had great english so really good and they were loving a good chat and a laugh- sitting in the cool eating fruit from their trees after seeing the operation of the business. The quality of their weaving was amazing and the history of the business so interestingCovered about 20 kms all up with a few ferry rides and a temple stop as well. Our man for the day, Vicheka, was great, a nice young guy doing this to finance completing his uni studies and loves cycling. You finish up back in PP, being tuk tuked through the busy traffic from the edge of the city to have lunch at a very untouristy local cafe where the food is good and the people around, mainly guys, are either playing volley ball in the big covered arena behind or playing chess.I am not a regular cyclist, but it was not difficult, being mostly flat. it was very hot & dusty, but cycling along was fine. We happened to be alone that day with Vicheka which we enjoyed.

While it was an early start, it was absolutely worth it. The booking process was easy and shortly upon arrival we were given a good quality bike, some sunscreen (we had forgotten ours) and off we were. We were only a group of 3 with our guide Vicheka. We cycled through the city for 2 km, the traffic is a little busy but manageable.Very soon you cross over and are immediately in a completely different environment, very rural. Local children were very happy to see us and their greetings followed us the entire time. We did a stop at a silk farm and spent some money there. We also got some fruit here and we had some time to relax. On the way back we visited a temple and took in total 3 ferries to get around.back in the city we went to a popular local restaurant with fantastic food, we really enjoyed it.overall it was a great tour, Vicheka was very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable and we had a great day. The distance of ca. 20km was perfect for us, the speed is very relaxing and the roads are fine. I could imagine the roads being difficult to navigate shortly after a rain though.
