Why Golden Waterfall is special ?
The Golden Waterfall (黃金瀑布) is located near the Gold Ecological Park (黃金博物園區) in Jinguashi. Although there is no actual gold flowing forth from these falls, the name reflects their golden appearance: the combination of regular rainfall in this mining area and abundance of heavy metal elements deposited in the riverbed radiate a gold-like color.
The “rich” scenery has likewise become a favorite spot for wedding photography. And if you are not yet familiar with the tradition of Taiwanese wedding photo-ops, our guides will fill you in on this unique practice.
Along the river, is an abandoned iron mine. The best vantage point to view the Yin Yang Sea, is right atop a 13 stories high abandoned mining dormitory. The place felt to be still trapped in the 1930s. Apart form the dorm, there are numerous mining-cart tunnels running down the mountain side, resembling a black giant snake.
What to explore at Golden Waterfall?
On the other side nearer to the residential area which is also the non-mine section, water remains in its somewhat purer form, reflecting a strong contrast to the gold waterfall. By the way, the gold in its name refers to the colour; you would not be able to find any of that precious Au.
The best place to view Ying yang Hai should be somewhere along the road between Jinguashi and Shuinandong. You can drive along and search for the best spot.
How to get to Golden Waterfall?
Take bus 788 from Keelung or Bus 886 from Ruifang. Both buses stop exactly in front of the falls. Alternatively, you can take a cab from Gold Mine Museum for around NT50 per person.
