Why Goethe Gourmet Gasthaus is special ?
A new addition to the German dining scene, Goethe Gourmet Gasthaus is the brainchild of the indefatigable Qiu Dai-yu, who also owns Oma Ursel. The décor is highlighted nicely by the large windows that allow generous amounts of natural lighting to filter in. Its setting right next to Wenzhou Park ensures pleasant views through those windows. The local fruit vendor had his produce out on the sidewalk in plain view, accentuating the sense of being amid a traditional market.
Cafe Goethe's cakes are made on much the same principle - they're as delicious as they are stolid. Where Caffe Libero's fare is a flighty French maid flitting about in Belle Epoch buildings, Cafe Goethe's sizeable cakes are pushing plows in the field.
Go for the cakes (and pies - they sometimes have good pies on offer), stay for the coffee which often comes as a deal with the cake. If your stomach can handle the onslaught, try some of their very good food and beer
You should try: the jagerschnitzel and the wursts
