Generally, zoos in Indonesia are in sad conditions. This one is actually in better condition. The enclosures are reasonably big, there's also a reasonable variety of animals. This zoo, has a canal for water spots, some interesting landscaping and a small museum. Unfortunately, you can see also some unsightly trash in the river nearby.Worth a visit if you have enough for ancient temples in Yogyakarta.

I went here thinking it would be interesting, but it was just awful. The elephants and bears are rocking backwards and forwards, clearly in distress. The "enclosures" are concrete prison cells barely big enough for the animals with no greenery or distractions for them (anyone who's ever watched Monkey Business will want to cry when they see the monkeys). Even the fish tanks were too small.I hear there is a nice zoo near Surabaya, so go there instead. This one? My heartfelt advice is to avoid if you care anything for animals as it's not a nice day out.
