Why Firefly Watching is special ?

Firefly watching takes place in Iwahig River, one of the biggest and scenic rivers in Puerto Princesa. Open your eyes to a different world of lighters glittering numerous mangrove trees somehow resembling Christmas trees in the darkest of night, It is truly a sight to behold one visitor of Puerto Princesa shouldn’t miss. Fireflies live in abundance amongst the mangroves and trees, which are perfectly situated along the banks of the Sicsican and Iwahig Rivers. This location is ideal as it is away from the light pollution experienced in the city. Hundreds of fireflies covered these Indian Almond trees, pulsating light at the same pace that like Christmas tree, a wonderful paradise.

It's like being in another world, I thought it's gonna be scary but it end up so amazingly.I got interested in learning the Constellations as well, my daughter and wife is with me and it's very advisable to kids. Seeing the galaxy up there is so nice on a quiet and peaceful river. People are very nice, accommodating and educative. A place away from noisy and polluted city can renew your soul I would say.

We went on a trip from Puerto Princesa including dinner at a hotel prior to the firefly watching booked through our hotel. The trip was very well organised and the dinner was wonderful, including some very good vegetarian options. We didn't have long to wait when we arrived at the river, we were given our safety jacket and hat, after a few minutes we were out in the little boat with our guide. The firefly's were magical to watch, the trees were lit up with what looked like fairy lights on a Christmas tree. It was absolutely awesome, the guide was very friendly and informative, we were also able to hold a firefly in our hand.We had a very clear nigh and our guide talked us through the star constellations, it was wonderful. It is such an interesting and romantic trip, I wanted to do it all over again. I would highly recommend the firefly watching, it was a wonderful trip and one of the highlights of our stay in the Philippines

This is my favorite part of our Palawan trip. It's a must see especially for city folks. My son enjoyed the boat ride and information shared by the tour guide/boat man. Its very educational especially that nowadays fire flies are scarce in cities. Overall it was a great experience. Be ready to pay P600/boat with a capacity for just the persons. There's five of us so we needed two boats and that's roughly 30USD for 30mins or so of a boat ride in the dark.
