Why Eastern Ice Store is special ?

Eastern Ice Store, located next to the ATT and Ming Yao department stores, this shop has been serving up traditional handmade starch ball desserts for over 20 years. Sinfully sweet and generously portioned, these treats are made with the best ingredients and no artificial flavoring. As a testimony to its uncompromising attitude to quality, the shop won the "ROC Consumers Association Golden Award" and "Customer Satisfaction Gold Award."

The ingredients are essentially a mix of your choice of rice balls, ice, and a few other ingredients that you decide on as well. This is pretty similar to shaved ice (and arguably categorized as shaved ice), but it is not what some people might expect. This is a really fantastic local self-made shop, that, despite being very small, has managed to grow its reputation across Taiwan and through China.

Tips for you

  • A busy location with ample seating next door, it seems to be fairly popular, but not too crowded that you weren't able to find a seat on a Saturday afternoon.
  • You have the option of adding up to 4 toppings each bow.
    Things to do
  • You can decide if you want the rice balls served hot or cold. If you select cold, the rice balls are still prepped hot, so you will need to add your preference in ice.
    Things to do
  • Like a lot of local places, there are no signs in English and most likely no one that speaks English, so you just point and pay and move aside.
    Things to do
  • Some people like to stir their shaved ice until it becomes a soupy mess. If you do, you should try it out.

This is seriously yummy shaved ice. Part of the fun is mixing and matching toppings to create the best sundae possible. Our personal favorite combo is green (mung) bean, barley, and tapioca.
