Why Eagle Square- Dataran Lang is special ?
Also known as Eagle Square, Dataran Lang is one of Langkawi’s best known manmade attractions, a large sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight. A sight that greets visitors to the island via ferry, the 12 metre-tall statue is one of the island’s most instantly recognizable monuments.
Located at the southeast corner of Pulau Langkawi, besides offering beautiful views of Kuah Bay, Dataran Lang has beautiful miniature fountains, terraces and bridges, making it the ideal place for those postcard-perfect holiday photos. The square is a good place to watch ferries ply across the harbour but plan a trip here early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun is at its least intense.
What to explore at Eagle Square- Dataran Lang?
Eagle Square is located on the right side of Kuah Jetty and within a short walking distance from there. The square covers a landscaped area of about 19-acres that has covered terraces, beautiful small ponds, fountains, footbridges, shops & eateries, and covered pavilions where events are held.
But the highlight of Eagle Square is its awesome view of the bay that opens out to the sea with the backdrop of mountains. From Eagle Square, you can see the ferries plying across the bay. And if you are arriving to Kuah town by a ferry (i.e. by the sea), you will sea this gigantic model of the eagle facing the waters greeting you as you approach the jetty.
Note that it can be really hot here during the mid day. The bare concrete floor of the square reflects heat and it can be quite difficult to stand here under the sun. So try to plan a trip either early in the morning or in the evening hours to walk around and really appreciate the place. After dark, the square and even the eagle sculpture are illuminated with lights and the place really looks gorgeous.
How to get to Eagle Square- Dataran Lang?
Eagle Square is located at the south eastern end of Langkawi in Kuah Town, and close to the Kuah Jetty. You can take a taxi or rental car to reach this place. It is also covered as part of several island tours. There is a Tourist Information Center close to it (No. +604 966 7789).

Tips for you
Langkawi has a large colony of sea eagles and it is not hard to see a few in the wild. A modern statue (probably fibreglass) has been erected on the jetty just by the sea depicting a huge sea eagle about to take off... As the beast is well detailed it is well worth the trip and a few different angle shots. No entry fee together with and agreeable park lined with tall trees make the visit even more pleasant. Dataran Lang (Eagle Square or even Eagle Park to a few) is what you want to make out of it. I’ve found the area delightful and peaceful (once you’re done with your photo shoot) where one can actually rest during his/her holiday by just seeing the world go past.
Superbly beautiful view here for some good pictures to be taken. Best during sunny time or evening when colorful lights shine brightly!
