Why Dian Shui Lou restaurant is special ?
The xiaolongbao (小籠包, NT$110 for a steamer of five), or “steamed dumplings,” on Dian Shui Lou’s menu, are rolled up in thin wrappers that nevertheless have a pleasant spring when you bite into them for a mouthful of rich, ambrosial juice.
Also on the Shanghai-style dim sum section is pan-fried wild vegetable pancake (薺菜鍋餅, NT$280). Using shepherd’s purse, or jicai (薺菜), common in Shanghai and neighboring areas, the pancake is one of the restaurant’s specialties.
The braised tender pork ribs with vegetable and plum sauce (無錫排骨, NT$420). The lean meat is cooked to a tender perfection, and the velvety fat added melt-in-the-mouth deliciousness. B
The braised specialty tofu with seafood and pork (點水豆腐煲, NT$480), made up of mushroom, pork, crab meat, shrimp, slices of sea cucumber and tofu. T
The boiled chicken consomme (元盅土雞清湯, NT$195) is also light and savory, and devoid of the unattractive tang common to boiled chicken.

Tips for you
we decided that we shouldnt miss dian shui lou in this trip to taipei and it is proven to be the right decision. we had dinner with a pal living in the city. we all agreed that even though the service level of taiwan is very high in general, we received one of the best service in this meal. the captain was the super star. he so patiently introduced their famous dishes and he also showed his impressive attention to details. for example, when my boy got clumsy when eating the delicious custard bun, he immediately provided my boy a wet towel. and we can also observed how he guided his team with patience. as for the food, the same fine quality as we had last time. we encored also the preserved vegetables with slice meat noodle. this is a very common dish from shanghaiese restaurants but they really did elevate it. the fried "niangao" was also very delicious! we will definitely visit this restaurant again!
We tried both branches and find the one at Nanjing East Road better. We enjoy not only the dumplings but also many dishes like drunken chicken, mango prawn, and dessert like "heart too soft." I especially like their dragon-well tea, for you cannot find it anywhere else. And their price is quite reasonable, in comparison with the 88 RMB tea per person at Mandarin Oriental Sanya Hotel, which is of course very fresh and green, but still over-priced
Friends took us to a downtown (one of three?) Taipei location and we had superb dumplings and other entrees backed by excellent service. We had reservations so though it was crowded we didn't have to wait. We were impressed enough by the food and service to try another location in the Sogo Dept. Store building on another evening. That was equally as good. Though the list of dumpling options isn't as extensive as another popular Taipei outlet, the flavors we enjoyed left us completely satisfied with the choices we had.
