Why Dan Sinh Market is special ?
Dan Sinh market is located in the 1st District of the city of Ho Chi Minh City, in a building with many years of history, previously a market of fruit and edible, to give way to a place of bets to become what it is today: a market of construction materials, industrial material, spare parts for plumbing hardware and also souvenirs of Vietnam war. The Vietnam War surplus market is not very touristic, most of the travelers who come up there tend to combine the visit to the Dan Sinh market with nearby Phung are Tu pagoda. In the curious Dan Sinh market which states sell genuine and authentic surplus of Vietnam War, we can find gear, clothing, bomber type jackets, boots, binoculars, purses, rolex watches, gas masks, hats, helmets of fighter pilots, shell casings, grenades, mines, camouflage clothing, flashlights, tents, sleeping bags, pads and registrations, banners, identification tags (dog tags) and especially zippo lighters. These memories of Vietnam war prices start at 5$ and there rise up to 40$ or more. Dan Sinh market sell souvenirs of war of both sides, the American side and the Vietnamese side (Vietcong).

you can buy military wears, secondhand things. any kind of kitchen accessory, baker maker...
Being a keen collector of Vietnam War stuff I was eagre to visit here since it was 12 years since my last visit. Reports varied but I was of the opinion that nothing original was available any longer and that everything was fake and reproduction. Well first up - the reproductions are very good and if you are wanting something as a souvenir rather than a collectors item, there is plenty to choose from. Secondly if you look closely and bury under the layers there are still real items to be found. Considering the obscene amount of ordinance dropped by the USA and the amount of stuff they simply abandoned, it is not surprising there are still items being found and dug up today. I purchased an authentic VC helmet and a few reproduced patches and an original VC badge. I could have bought a claymore mine, rusty hand grenades, mine triggers and shell casings ranging from AK47 through to rocket launchers. I was a bit wary of being arrested at the airport as a terrorist so avoided them. Not sure if the old rusting shavers and watches were really form US servicemen. And why pray tell would the USA soldiers leave behind thousands of their beloved Zippo Lighters. I doubt that any of these are real. Original Zippo prices - 800,000 Dong. Fake copies - 50,000. Sure!! Not a lot of war stalls left, the market mainly being hardware and electric goods but worth a visit for the war interest.
