Why Dam Market is special ?

Dam Market (Chợ Đầm), located in the heart of Nha Trang City, is not only the main Trade Centre with various merchandises ich was originally a 7 hectare pond before the market was built around 1908. Be damaged by war, it was reconstructed after the Vietnam War into the 5,270 m² market that can hold up to 3,000 people at a time. Dam Market caters mainly to tourists. The market takes place in a circular, three-story building, and the stalls sell a variety of things from souvenirs, tourist trinkets, knock-off brands and cheap watches, to fresh local produce and meats at the back of the market.

Tips for you

  • The market is always bustling with people. Keep an eye on your bag, since busy, crowded areas are the perfect hideouts for pickpockets and thieves.
    Personal belongings
  • As a rough guide, bargain down to around 60 percent of the asking price. If in doubt, visit other stalls before making the buy.
  • There's a lady on the outer ring that sells little pancakes with shrimp inside. Very tasty and very cheap.
  • Make sure you check out the dry seafood section to the right of the building for the usual exciting array of dried shrimp, seaweeds, cuttlefish and other well-known dried delicacies, typical of Vietnam’s coastal towns.

These markets do sell junk, but they are willing to bargain. Picked up a couple of dresses, so you just need to take the time to look around and pick up some good stuff. It does smell, but you are in Nha Trang - known for its seafood, and fish sauce, so they sell a lot of dried seafood. Go for the experience with no expectations. We had a good time (though hot) perusing and the food stalls selling the delicious VNese food.
