Why Daimaru Tokyo is special ?

Shop or Department Store in The Ginza, Marunouchi area In 1983, Daimaru opened its first museum in its store in Umeda and since then have opened museum spaces in all of its 5 stores. After a boom in the 80s and 90s, department store museums that enabled shopping and art to be enjoyed at the same time, have gradually decreased in number with only a few left. Despite this, Daimaru endeavors to continue its cultural activity to present not only established artists' exhibitions but also contemporary works to bring art into and to enrich everyday life.

What an exciting experience. We went down to the grocery department and couldn't believe our eyes, there was food in all varieties where ever you looked. Most of them bentos (boxes prepared with diffrent food). Everything looks so clean, well prepared, fresh, atractive to the eye, an amazing variety and good prices. We bought our bentos for the train ride, as well as the "Baumkuchen". If you're in Tokyo please try the Baumkuchen. It's a layered kind of pound cake, you can get it in 3 different flavors: green tea, orange-mango, and butter, all 3 are excellent.

We feasted well tonight from the amazing array of bento and deli delights at B1 of the Daimaru at Tokyo Station. Food was so well prepared and packed, it stayed fresh after a 2 hour train ride. Wonderful experience, superb value!
