Why City View Cafe is special ?
The City View Café, located on the fifth storey of the Aldo Building, occupies a strategic spot right in the middle of the city, offering an unobstructed view of the Old Quarters and depending on where you sit, some views of the Hoan Kiem Lake as well.
Although the City View Café has lots of indoor seats, it is clear that the seats by the veranda are most popular. If you are there, make sure you snag a good veranda seat as well. It is the best spot for people watching and to sit back and relax while observing motorist navigate the ever-chaotic Hanoi traffic below.
Must try dishes:
Chicken with lemongrass
Stir fried chicken with snow mushrooms
Duck in chilli and garlic
How to get to City View Cafe?
Impossible to miss if you're standing at the fountain intersection next to Hoan Kiem Lake. The entrance is on the lake side of the building.

Tips for you
What a great restaurant and what outstanding views over Ho Hoan Kiem Lake and the hustle and bustle below. Take the elevator to the 5th floor and ascend the stairs to the 6th level. Request to be seated on the left, over looking the lake and insist on a fan, if there is one available. The view, and photo opportunity, at night of the illuminated bridge (in red) to the Temple is excellent and not to be missed. The restaurant/bar has 2 levels on the 5th and 6th floor. Entry is on the corner of the building directly opposite the lake and roundabout with the fountain. The lady in the light blue tunic will arrange to escort your party up in the elevator and to the level of choice. Food and drinks are well priced and not expensive. The food is excellent served hot and fresh. The best time is around 7pm, or when it is dark, the night is just starting to cool slightly and the lights of the city and traffic are just like a magic, with the fountain below constantly changing colour amidst the 2.5 million motor bikes vying for rare space at the roundabout below..... The staff cannot do enough to assist and help you enjoy the experience.
What a fantastic view of the lake and the busy city centre with mopeds weaving in and out. Beer served ice cold but service is slow. Great place to watch the sun go down.
