Why Church of Sacred Heart is special ?

If you are in Manila or another Catholic country, this would be very ordinary but In Vientiane, Laos, this church is spectacular.

Small church but with a comparatively big compound. Patronized by "farang" more than local Lao people who are mostly Buddhists. Church had influence by the French (colony times), and the Vietnamese - as can be seen by the sign board on the main road. Walking distance to the French Embassy, and the market and the Talat Sao Mall. Quite a few Filipinos too - especially as choir members in the English Mass on Sunday. Compound of the church could be better kept if  the church has more funds.

If I was in Manila or another Catholic country, this would be very ordinary but since it was in Vientiane, Laos, it's spectacular! I'm not Catholic but seeing the cross made me feel a little better after seeing so many wats. I'm not trying to make any idiotic religious statements because I was in Laos to see the local culture but some familiarity along the way comes in very nicely.

Walked here from downtown (near French embassy). Was disappointed it isn't (or at least wasn't) open during the week. Looks like a lovely building. After three weeks of Buddhist temples I was looking forward to a serene church but the closest we got was looking in through the gates on a Tuesday afternoon.
