Why Chokdee Cafe & Belgian Beer Bar is special ?

In addition to more than a hundred brands of Belgian beer, their kitchen serves offerings from a meat-centric menu of steaks, kebabs, sausages, stews, fried mussels, and burgers. The meats are perfectly cooked, portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and side dishes like Belgian-style fries are so good they could stand alone as a meal in themselves.

As the beers are imported, they are a little pricey, but for those on a tighter budget, BeerLao is available. Though you'd be crazy to come here and not try the Belgian specialties, they also offer Lao salads, curries, and a traditional Lao tasting menu. The staff and regular clientele are a friendly, chatty bunch, and on occasion, local expat bands will perform for the customers.

Nice friendly place, with outstanding selection of Belgian beers. The menu is very helpful, with the beers organized in categories according to style and character and the alcohol content indicated (note many of the Belgian beers are very strong!). The waiters are also suprisingly knowledgable about the beers and can make some recommendations if you're having difficulty deciding. The Belgian beers are not cheap (ranging from 50,000 to over 100,000 per bottle), but not unreasonable for this part of the world, where you usually can't find such beers at any price! If you're not into the more pricey Belgian beers, there's always Beer Lao at local prices.Food is also good and very reasonable priced. Again, staff helpful and friendly. I asked for my steak to be cooked a bit more and they were very accommodating. Nice salad and good Belgian fries, of course!!I'd definitely go back for more!

My wife and I got sick from the mussels and fries (Moules Frites) they have on special. Not saying you will, but we sure did. It was either from the water they used for the broth, or the mussels themselves, but this was the only thing we had all night and woke up sick from it in the middle of the night. This was only our experience, but wanted to throw it out there. Their beer selection is pretty killer, service was good, and environment was lively.

If you are looking for a happening and friendly place at night and if you like Belgian beers, this place will be like paradise to you. They have myriads of Belgian beers!Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the mussels smelled so good (although I didn't have any).Too bad all places in Vientiane have to close so early (11ish), I would have stayed longer!
