Reviews
This review is for the B&B feature/services of the mansion. It is a lovely building with a lot of fensgshui elements and oriental/euro designs worked in. I love the courtyard -- and can easily spend hours chilling out there. The bed rooms are well appointed and tastefully done up.Now the down side -- this is an old house after all. The walls are a tad thin. So if you happen to have noisy neighbors (which we did), be warned. Our neighbors upstairs seemed to be packing or playing or - whatever -- it was late at night and we were kept up with them noise. The wooden floor doesn't help with heavy steps too. Next morning, we could hear them all over again (maybe 7 am?) -- heavy footsteps, things dropping and rolling, hair dryer..finally, luggage being pulled out... It was peaceful on the 2nd night .. :)We attended the house tour on a previous visit so skipped it this time.. Breakfast was a decent western style menu. Staff are enthusiastic and helpful . Overall - a pleasant stay - just us being light sleepers and having a noisy neighbor above.
The house is beautiful from the outside and has quite some history. We had a very friendly and fun elder lady to guide us around the mansion. You could tell she was passionate about her job which made the guided tour a success in my eyes. She told us a lot of smaller but nonetheless very interesting anecdotes about the former owner. The tour only lasted one hour which is exactly the right amount to visit the mansion.
This former rich Chinese Mansion is coloured blue, so it also called the Blue Mansion. The history tells us , the owner has up and downs in his life , and he believes in Feng Shui.Sad to see that very little furniture and artifacs left in this Mansion. The guided tour was informative and opens a new perspective of how the rich Chinese people lived their lives in the past. This place contains a small souvenir shop and cafe, we tried the ice kacang , tasted nice.Wear comfortable clothing in Penang because its very hot.
