Why Chaweng Beach is special ?

Six km of white sandy beach, tropical hotels, a hopping nightlife, numerous restaurants and shopping opportunities makes Chaweng the most popular beach on the island's east coast. It's is usually divided into four sections: North Chaweng, Central Chaweng, South Chaweng and Chaweng Noi (Little Chaweng) which is around a headland and at the southern most tip of Chaweng. Chaweng Beach is approximately 7 km long, making it the longest beach on the east coast. It is lined with coconut trees and boasts year long, warm (temperatures range between 25-28°C.) emerald-blue waters in the Gulf of Thailand.

Chaweng offers an incredibly broad range of accommodation, ranging in price from as little as 400 baht per night for basic fan rooms and shared facilities, premium resorts charging up to 20,000 baht per night and 5 star villas at 70,000 per night. The beach attracts a diverse range of travellers, from your young "hippie" backpackers, international school and university students, sporting teams, singles, couples, honeymooners, wedding party's and families.

What to explore at Chaweng Beach?

During the day one can relax on the beach, enjoy some water sports or other activities while at nighttime Chaweng transfers to a bustling entertainment area with live music, cabaret shows, dance clubs and dining opportunities not to be missed.

The views from Chaweng Beach are spectacular and include two small islands, near the natural reef, that you can walk to and explore at low tide.

The central part of Chaweng is far more crowded than the quieter south or north and attracts the younger "up for it" party travellers. If music and activity is not your scene, this area is very easily avoided, and will mainly go unnoticed.
While on the beach, many vendors will stop and offer beverages, fruit, ice cream and local Thai food cooked on small portable BBQ's. A variety of local crafts and Thai souvenirs are also available.
The main road, runs parallel to the beach and from south to north is occupied by the ubiquitous convenience stores and restaurants, bars, resorts, hotels, tailors, clothing, accessory, pharmacy, massage, spa, souvenir and fast-food shops

We love the beach here. It is clean, soft sand, warm azure water and in March, no crowds. We spent many happy hours swimming and playing in the water. There is a tide, but there is always plenty of water for swimming. There are places to eat, drink, rent seafood, banana boats, water taxis. We have seen no more than 5 sellers on the beach, each day. And they have not been bothersome at all. Same with the massage ladies. About 4-5 pm many local Thai people come to the beach with their children. They play in the water and collect tiny clams where the surf meets the sand. They are a delight to watch.

Great big waves and white sand, the best beach I've visited. Other parts of the beach less impressive.
