Why Chau Say Tevoda is special ?

Chau Say Tevoda is a small temple of similar design and floor plan to Thom-manon located across the street (except for additional gopuras and library). For years it looked like Thommanon’s neglected sister, languishing in significantly worse condition. In recent years Chau Say Tevoda has undergone an extensive restoration project, which is now largely complete.

What to explore at Chau Say Tevoda?

The temple layout consists of four gopuras, two 'libraries', and a central sanctuary. A long causeway and cruciform terrace extends eastward toward the Siem Riep river. The temple was in very poor condition until the 1960s when the West Gopura was reconstructed by the EFEO. A more recent restoration by the Chinese was completed in 2009. However, the restoration is controversial as many missing stones were replaced with modern reconstructions that were carved to resemble what the archaeologists believed to be the original designs. As Michel Petrotchenko has pointed out "...in a few years' time it will be difficult to distinguish these stones from the ones carved in the 12th century."

How to get to Chau Say Tevoda?

From Angkor Thom, Chau Say Tevoda is located 500 meters from the Victory Gate on the way to Ta Keo. This isn’t a popular tourist destination. As a result, you might want to go with a guide that knows the area well.

This temple is right across from thommanon. It is very similar to the Thommanon but i found this temple more fascinating. Similar to the Thommanon there are not that many tourist and it is a nice place if you want to relax. What i liked about this temple is that there is a little bridge like walk way on the eastern side of the temple which was different than the other typical temples at the Park.

This temple is not walled, so it's easy to see it straight from the road.Nothing to be impressed about, likewise its neighbour Thommanon, but it hosts few tourists, if you need a break from the mass and a peaceful walk.

This is a small temple across the road from Thommanon and similar in design. It was built much later than Thommanon but in a worse condition. Still worth spending some time to look around if you are in that area.
