Why Chao Mae Tuptim Shrine is special ?
The Chao Mae Tuptim shrine was created in the first quarter of the 20th century by Thai businessman Nai Lert (1872-1945), who found a spirit house floating in the klong and placed it on the bank of his property. In Thailand, the phallus is considered to be a symbol of good luck and also a representative of fertility. The shrine is one of the best examples of intentional phallic architecture in the world.
The shrine is named after Chao Mae Tuptim, a pre-Buddhist Southeast Asian tree spirit, who is said to bestow blessings on those who worship her at the shrine. The site attracts women from all across Thailand and even other east Asian countries.

Tips for you
A fun sight to see if in area. Or if you simply ran out of things to see or if you are into the oddities. A tiny park behind Swiss Hotel along canal. "Hard" to find at first, but look for hotel and locate canal behind it. Once there, you see penises of different sizes and shapes. A shrine for fertility. Ladies or men, if the sight of erections turn you off, don't go. If this excites you then worth a visit. While there, cruise inside the hotel and see lobby. Impressive. Might have to cool down with drink at bar after seeing all the erect penises.
