Best night in Sai Gon at the moment IMHO! Music, Venue, Crowd, Vibe, all coming together. Bit like the Haci before it broke open. GO!!
Went to Cargo two nights in a row to catch local act White Noiz and a band from Myanmar, Bloodsugar Politk. I'm from Nashville originally and have been to a hell of a lot of venues both in the US and overseas. Cargo ranks as one of my favourites. The design is great- no fuss, no outrageous decorations, just simple furniture and cool photos of shows on the walls. The service was friendly and the beers were cold. Unlike most venues there were more than enough toilets all kept very clean. The soundsystem was top notch and the DJ spun a good mix of funk, soul, rock and reggae. And the bands were incredible... it won't be long till they get picked up by a label. An impromptu jam session closed out the night. Awesome to see that Cargo and the team behind it are promoting local and regional talent. Southeast Asia needs more places like Cargo! I'll definitely visit again the next time I'm in Saigon.
Cargo is one of my favourite venue to go out in Saigon. I love the decoration made of wooden pallets, second hand illuminated water tanks and medusa-like ceiling lights. The music is always narrowly chosen, whatever it is house, electro, reggae or indie rock (don't miss their rock party on sunday nights!). You'll meet mostly foreigners at Cargo but a few locals also move their bodies there. In addition, the drinks are really unexpensive and you can buy some crazy Jagerbombs. The only annoying points is that, since it is a huge building, it is hard to fill it with people. As a result, the dancefloor isn't often crowded. Oh, and also, it is not open every night, so make sure you check on their website if a gig or a party are planned!
