Why Cai Rang Floating Market is special ?
Cai Rang Floating Market in Can Tho City, together with Cai Be and Phung Hiep, is one of the three biggest in the Mekong Delta. The shops and stalls at the market are boats of different sizes.
From Cai Rang Bridge, the market stretches half kilometre downstream Can Tho River. Hundreds of boats gathering here from the dawn till before noon makes the area extraordinary animated and the water surface colorful with numerous tropical fruits. The large sized anchored boats create meandering lanes for smaller ones to weave through. All create a bustling and joyful atmosphere that can attract any tourist.

What to explore at Cai Rang Floating Market?
During the early morning market hours, larger sized boats anchor and create lanes that smaller boats weave in and out of. The waterway becomes a maze of hundreds of boats packed with mango, bananas, papaya, pineapple, and even smuggled goods like cigarettes. Sellers do not have to cry out about their goods because their goods can be seen in a distance and their cries would not be heard in the vastness of the river and the noise of boat engines. Small boats that sell beer, wine and soft drinks go among the other boats to serve market-goers and visitors. Sellers tie their goods to a tall pole so that buyers can see from a distance what they are selling.

When in Can Tho, you should not miss this! Make sure to go there early in the morning, that is the time when there is the most activity on the water. It is incredible to see how people live, eat, work on the water. They hooked up their small boots to ours and tried to sell us drinks, food, fruits, etc... But they are not pushy at all. It is all very colorful and picturesque, a unique experience.
Read up ad nauseum on the floating markets. Wanted to be there early. Picked up at 5:30am. Walked 1.5 klms. Got on a small boat, just the 2 of us and a nice boat captain. Spent the next 1 hour or so boating under power to reach the markets. What an extreme disappointment!!Nothing like you will see on Youtube or in photos. VERY FEW BOATS!!.After 10 minutes we were off again to the next market. NEVER SAW IT. Got a sore bum instead. 6 hour round trip. $85/ for 2 people. Nor even a drink. This tour was a rip-off!! The first we experienced in 6 weeks in Vietnam.
Ha a great day in CanTho after taking a long time to deiberate over how to see the sites, I chose Susan Bui to guide me. I am glad I did because my experince of the market was very personalized. We had our own small boat wih a lovely woman rower rather than the large tour boats. The river was beautifl and it was fun to order coffee and pho from the boat. I also took a countryside tour later in th day with Susan and it wa SO GREAT! I love suporting women with businesses. facebook.com/canthotouring
Have you ever shopped by sitting on a boat? Have you ever enjoy many kind of fresh of fruit on a boat? Welcome you to visit Mekong Delta, especially Cai Rang Floating Market, Can Tho where you can explore Mekong Delta and enjoy a lot of kind of fruit. Cai Rang Floating Market, one of specially markets in Vietnam, usually starts in the early morning and end at 8 a.m or 9 a.m. Visitors should go to market at 7a.m or 8 a.m. It's suitable time for you to visit because the market is very crowded and bustling at that time. When you visit Cai Rang Market, you will sit on a boat or canoe to choose, buy and enjoy everything, such as: agricultural products, fruit, noodle, coffee. Besides, soaking up the lively atmosphere of the fair, visitors can observe, learn the life of many families with several generations living on boats. There are boats as "mobile flat " in the river with flower pots, animal species, full amenities such as color TV, DVD, stereo ... including motorcycle.
Try some pineapple or nooddle soup: there's a boat for everything. But prices will be higher if you're a tourist.
