Why Cafe Mai is special ?
Cafe Mai is a local speciality coffee shop directly opposite the Hotel Nikko Hanoi. They sell a quite a variety of coffee in both robusta and arabica species. Coffee served in the cafe are not the usual italian style latte, espresso and cappuccino but rather the strong Vietnamese robusta coffee in the drip style. The cups are then set in bowls of hot water to keep them warm. When in Hanoi one must learn to be patient and never rush.
Apart from the exotic coffee being sold here, there were a variety of other blends as well. Seems like some of the locals love to buy their coffee fresh by the 100 gram packets from these cafes. They were seen arriving by cars and bikes to get freshly grounded coffee from the special take away counter of the Cafe Mai.

If you love coffee, this is the place to go, but be prepared for the sticker shock for their best coffee. With out a doubt if you like coffee do not miss this place.
the best coffee shop in Vietnam! highest quality of beans, special coffee roasting, unusual design - must have!!!
If you're looking for coffee to bring home from Vietnam, look no further than Cafe Mai. My Vietnamese friend from Hanoi took my boyfriend and I here for coffee because she said it's the best place in the city. We loved our coffee in the restaurant (although it's a little pricey... our three coffees cost about the same as a full dinner earlier in the evening). However, the real draw here is the coffee you can purchase from the shop downstairs. I recommend the Moka blend. I bought it whole bean and ground it up when I got home, and it's really just amazing and quite possibly the best coffee I've ever had -- a rich and almost chocolately flavor. I even made my co-workers smell the coffee beans, I was so excited. I am on occason prone to hyperbole so take this for what you will, but the coffee is really really really really really good. Really.
