Why Cactus is special ?

Cactus is a popular open-air restaurant that’s been serving up Western and Malay cuisine for years. Located directly across from the Holiday Villa Resort, their eclectic decor has become rather shrine-like as patrons lovingly leave mementos of themselves (or of their favourite football team) behind as ‘thanks for the memories’ parting gifts.

Being a new build, the landscaping at Cactus Inn has not quite caught up with the grounds’ surrounding foliage but there is still plenty of shade on hand to keep things cool in addition to the onshore sea breezes — in fact you may not even need the air-con.

Some must-try dishes:

Tom Yam Soup

Traditional Thai favourite with seafood, vegetables and lemongrass.

Spaghetti Bolognese

Minced beef in tomato concusses sauce, served over spaghetti.

Barracuda with Butter Garlic Sauce

Deep-fried marinated fish fillet, topped with homemade cream butter garlic sauce.Foo Yong Omelet

Chinese style three-egg omelet with thinly sliced vegetables and prawns

Banana Fritters with Yam Ice-cream

Sliced bananas were coated with batter and deep-fried, served with yam ice-cream.Calamari

Squid marinated in garlic batter and dee-fried.

Foo Yong Omelet

Chinese style three-egg omelet with thinly sliced vegetables and prawns.

Thanks TA reviewers - without your reviews I would have thought this was just another Malaysian eating place & would not have enjoyed such good food. True, it does not look much with wooden tables that have seen better days, a tin roof and some rickety chairs. But…. The food, drink, welcome and ambience was amazing. We had many drinks (about 12 gins and JDs) Started with fried calamari (it was fresh not frozen) and 10 chicken satay which was full of flavour & served with onion and cucumber. Then fried noodles with chicken, seafood & veg, crispy duck with teriakye sauce ( really crispy & tasty) prawns with sweet & sour sauce and chicken with black pepper (tasty & succulent) We still had room for desert so apple pie & ice cream and banana fritter & ice cream All for 211 MYR!!!! Music was fab - could have been my playlist on the iPod - sang along to a mix of 50s through to current day hits - Abba, Elvis, Coldplay and Sam Smith to name but a few. The music stopped (sadly) for a guy with a guitar and a bad voice - still he gave it a go and most people gave him a couple of ringgits - all added to the fun of the evening Great fun - give it a go

Their food is surprisingly delicious! Highly recommended for their omelette! French toast not bad as well.
