Why Bun mam ba Thuyen – Madam Thuyen’s Vietnamese gumbo is special ?
There are many different kinds of noodle in Vietnam. Bun mam is one of those, a fermented thick Vietnamese vermicelli soup sometimes called “Vietnamese gumbo”. As the name suggests, the exquisiteness of this dish depends mostly on its anchovy fish sauce. Main ingredients include vermicelli, grilled pork or beef, furmented pork roll, boiled young jackfruit, shrimp paste, peanu. Originally Bun mam is accompanied with boiled pork, and other alternatives include roasted pork. Additionally, bun mam is served with “mit non” (unripe/young jackfruit) and the special chilli sauce which are trademarks of the central region.
