Why Bun Cha 34 is special ?

Best Bun Cha in Hanoi : 34 Hang Than Street ,Hanoi

Best Bun Cha Hanoi is possibly the most delicious food available to man, bun cha is the lunch of choice all over Hanoi.Pork patties and slices of pork belly are grilled over hot coals and served with fish sauce, tangy vinegar, sugar and lime, which, when combined, creates a sort of barbecue soup that is eaten with rice vermicelli and fresh herbs.Accompanied by deep-fried spring rolls, this calorically rich dish is served with garlic and chilies on the side for an extra kick.

Bun cha is my favourite lunch dish of all – barbecued pork in a sweet and sour soup with bun noodles and herbs on the side. We tried it in many different forms and many different places. My favourite, apart from the one we made ourselves during our cooking class with Hidden Hanoi, was the first one we visited on the street food tour, Bun Cha Nem Cua Be which came with lots of fresh veggies and herbs and juicy spring rolls. Another favourite came from Com Viet Nam, 2 Au Trieu Hanoi, a little closer to the old town and which happened to be just a lucky find we stumbled across. They serve around four other dishes which all looked pretty tasty too.

Tips for you

  • It's much more worth it to try for dinner when it is quiet and you can indulge all your senses at the store without being disrupted by fellow Bun Cha worshippers.
  • You pay when you leave.
  • This is truly the best place to have a wonderful portion of the delicious bun cha!
  • A great meal for a small price in a restaurant where Vietnamese are waiting outside to find a place!
  • It is not a luxury restaurant with wait staff and during lunchtime you are lucky to find a free seat
  • You just sit down, the menu with prices is on the wall: Bun Cha and Nem, so you do not have to order, they will serve automatically.

I don't know what crazy people rated this place below four stars. It was far and away our favorite meal in Hanoi. Granted you have to be looking for a meal on the street in those small plastic chairs sans air conditioning (and I wouldn't have it any other way). That said, the food was unbelievably good. It will haunt my dreams.

I discovered this wonderful place thanks to the Vietnamese girlfriend of my buddy, who said it was the best place in Hanoi to eat bun cha. Expectations were high and met, this truly is the best place to have a wonderful portion of the delicious bun cha!

Being a Vietnamese in the South is a being deprived of good quality Bun Cha. These great simple looking bowls of noodles and char-grilled pork can only be found in the North and i mean the authentic ones. I eat Bun Cha at least twice every single time i am in Hanoi. Shame on me that i only discovered this place with the last visit. We had dinner (it is a lunch dish but who cares) for three people, with three sets of Bun Cha and a plate of crispy spring rolls (Nem) a la carte and three iced green teas. The bill came back at VND 90k - 100k per person. Even though i am a great eater with usual portion of two bowls each time, i barely finished one here. Contrary to other places in Hanoi, the pork is soft and well grilled with all the crispy bits on the surface. The sauce itself is not as salty nor as sweet as other places, enable you to taste the grilled pork entirely. The Nem, is usually a side dish and not really a focus, but turned out to be a surprise with well-seasoned filling and really crispy skin. If you want to go for lunch good luck with finding a table. I was told it closed quite early but our dinner started at 7 pm. I think it is much more worth it to try for dinner when it is quiet and you can indulge all your senses at the store without being disrupted by fellow Bun Cha worshippers. Otherwise you can go to their sister store in Hang Gai but seats are scarce at lunch all the same ;)

Deservedly one of the city's most popular Bun Cha places, it's simple, cheap and delicious. 35k buy you a big bowl full of grilled meat and noodles. Don't forget to order some nem on the side
