Why Binh Ba Island is special ?
Binh Ba is a small island with total area of over 3 sq. km. It's about 60 km from Nha Trang and 390km from Ho Chi Minh City. Traveling to Binh Ba forces us to reach Ba Ngoi port first. Ba Ngoi port is 15km from Cam Ranh Airport.
Previously, Binh Ba is a Military Island, so they limited outside access. Now, the rules have been easing, but foreigners are prohibited from entering. This is the reason why the island has just been famous recently. If you do not want to be evicted from the island soon, you should not be curious to banning areas of military or have some disruptive and extremist actions
Because the military is managing quite carefully, so Binh Ba remains a relatively unspoiled island, and rustic retained nature. Recently, the number of tourists have drawn to Binh Ba more, infrastructure development has not kept pace with this arrivals, making the environment in the island no longer clear as before.

What to do
Daytime: Swimming and snorkeling
What should not be missed when traveling to Binh Ba is hiring ship to get to beautiful beaches and snorkelling for coral viewing. Package price of ship hiring to all the beach is 1 million - 1,2 million per trip, depending on site, so if you go with many people, it will save more. Saying that "snorkeling" but actually you do not necessarily dive, just wearing life jackets and situated on the float, face down on the sea surface and enjoy the views. Therefore, who can not swim don't be afraid about that. Remember to bring your swimming goggles to enjoy snorkeling and diving. Diving goggles may be slightly difficult to unfamiliar wearer.
You even do not need to get into water for snorkeling. Occasionally, at Nha Cu beach with low tide, colorful coral reefs will be basking in the sun, you can just look at, touch and enjoy.
There are 7 beaches. In which, there are 3 beaches you can get to by motorbike like Bãi Nồm beach, Bãi Chướng Beach, and Nhà Cũ beach. Bãi Nồm beach is a very wide sandy beach and a place with rocks. Most locals and tourists swim here because the sea is very clean. Bãi Chướng beach is located a 30-minute walk from the harbor. This is the only beach on the island to enjoy the dawn. Nhà Cũ beach has many urchin so you can be stabbed in your leg when swiming However, this beach is very excellent in term of clear and clean sea water.
If you have time, you should only get to 4 other beaches by ship and 3 anothers by motorbike. Firstly, the hiring fee is lower (about 600k). Secondly, you will have more time to swim and see more coral at each place, remember to request gear (lifejackets, floats, goggles) and the instructor to see the most beautiful coral reefs at the right place.
There is also a service for dining out with friends on the raft (contact several tour agency in the hostel near the pier on Binh Ba, or ask any of its citizens).
Rent motorcycles to explore the island
After swiming and snorkling, the interesting section that not to be missed is renting a motorbike to explore the island. Car rental is 100k / day, there is plenty of room rentals and homestay on the island offering this services. You should go by motorcyclists to the beach early in the morning to see the sunrise in Bãi Chướng beach. Then run all the way to discover the mountain pass. There are many places giving you a very beautiful sight, especially at the highest point of the North, the South and the East. You will have the opportunity to observe the entire Cam Ranh Bay, watching the turtle island, coastal patrol boats, small fishing boats or panoramic residential area of the island there.
The old relics like bunkers, cannons pedestal, along the mountain tunnel are also very good for you to see.
At the Bãi Nồm beach, there is a small park with many trees, rental hammocks service nearby. Enjoying a midday cool sleep, swinging with the waves and the sea breeze is fantatis.
First interesting activity that you should try is finding crab. The uninhabited beaches around the Binh Ba island has so many crabs. Using flashlight to find and chase them in the evening is a great fun activity. Especially you can enjoy tasty fried crab dish afterward.

Another game that's also quite interesting is to contact the owners to be on the raft and to go catching shrimp and squid. Some organize tours companies are also organized this, or you just ask any of the people on the island, it will not be difficult to find the right places.
What to eat
Binh Ba Island is famous for its and fresh lobster and seafood. Therefore, you definitely can not ignore this specialty. You can ask the organizer to held a cruise tour to the beach while eating on the raft. There are blue lobster and shrimp here, each type has two price range. lobster prices are from 400,000 to 600,000 VND / kg. Alive shrimp: 1.400.000d / kg - 1.800.000d / kg. Shrimp prices depends on the day, depending on season, but certainly cheaper than other places from 30% to 50%.
However, you should not eat too much food, but put aside your stomach space for dinner. If you want to organize a karaoke party, this service are available. If you want to "challenge yourselves" a bit, then you go shopping yourselves and organize a seafood buffet. At 4 - 5pm, go to the dock area, go along, there will be many places selling fresh seafood.
There are plenty of lobster, shrimp , fish, sea snails, sea cucumber, abalone, oysters, squid, ... Just ask the price and choose the most favorites, then ask the restaurant to cook. You can sit and eat at the restaurant or ask them to bring food to Bãi Nồm beach to enjoy while watching the sea. They will lend you all from the oven to the cup, chopsticks, your task is just borrowing a tarpaulin (ask hostel) and find the most appropriate location, then eating and singing!
In addition, there are many shops selling delicious and cheap food like bread soup / noodle fried fish (fried or steamed), barbecue bun, noodles, macaroni, noodles, smoothies, baked roll ... Price of this item is only from 10k - 20k, so attractive, right? Or you can stay at home, them also cook for you if you ask, but the price is quite expensive (80k -90k / share) compared to quality.
In the early morning, between 5:30 - 7 pm there will be a market at the pier. The fishing boats arrive and seafood sellers gathers. The price of mainly fish and squid are quite cheap. If you want to buy more types of fish, especially "Bốp"fish , wait for more fish untill 8am. Before leaving Binh Ba, people often to the market to buy seafood and crating to carry on. Cooler box are available for sale and you will given ice and get the box crating by sellers.
How to get to Binh Ba Island?
There are 3 ways to get to Binh Ba: Planes, cars and motorcycles.
Planes: Everyday, there are many flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang. As soon as getting off the plane, there will be long taxi lines parked at the Cam Ranh airport to transport you to Ba Ngoi port. It takes just over half an hour to reach there which is about 15km.
Note: you have to consider plane hour and reasonable hour to get to island in order not to wait for a long time at the port.

Because of pretty far distance, you should carefully consider your own health status, weather, condition to not happen regrettable things on the way. From Ho Chi Minh City travel by car along Highway 1 (north). Along the way you will come across Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan), Phan Rang - Thap Cham (Ninh Thuan)
Ideally, you should park the motorcycle in Ba Ngoi port at the parking lot, then go to the island alone. Because if you want to bring car to the island, you must hire a private boat. In addition, The island is small, you can walk around. Want to explore many further place, you can rent a motorbike.
