I went shopping at the Silk Market or Yaxiu Market. Both places were very exciting places. It is almost a sensory overload, but you can find good deals and bargain for everything you get. Bargain hard, no matter what they say, and if they won't meet your offer, simply walk away. 9 out of 10 times they will come chasing after you accepting your price. It is definitely a fun and exciting time, but you will be tired after for sure. It definitely helps to have someone you know/ trust that can communicate in Mandarin. The merchants don't necessarily like it, but it helps protect you from being worked over. Either way, all of the Merchants can speak English well (they want your money) and I even heard some Spanish, so don't fret about the language barrier.
