Why Barracuda @ The Wharf is special ?
Tasteful, well designed, and intimate, award-winning Barracuda in Mae Nam is aimed at people who appreciate fine dining at reasonable cost. The German-born chef here is affable and an extremely good host and steers his culinary output towards a marriage of European and Asian dishes.
The menu is changed every three months to ensure renewed interest and fresh ideas and the diminutive (20 covers) restaurant has a fisherman’s theme running through it with an actual fishing boat on one wall
Specials are chalked up on the blackboard and you’re sure to find a dish or three to your liking here at this charming place.
Try a salmon tartar with Asian spices or a pumpkin soup with Thai spinach and rock lobster. Alternatively, calamari with roasted water melon and a butter-lemon sauce is out of this world. Minted cantaloupe melon with feta cheese and fennel salad shows why the inventiveness of this restaurant makes it stand out. The house wine is fabulous.

Tips for you
It's always a worry when an excellent restaurant moves location, however Barracuda is just as good as when it was in Maenam. The location is great in the middle of the brand new Wharf, restaurant is stunning, beautiful wood floors, huge windows which open to the small outside dining area, and because of the size you are don't have to listen to conversations at tables near to you. Food is as good as ever; I had scallops beautifully cooked, my husband seared tuna (personally think it would have looked better on a plain white plate without the pile of leaves), followed by sea bass on a bed of lentils and chorizo and vanilla mash. The lentils gave the dish a good texture and the chorizo some fire, Perfectly cooked fish, beautiful. My husband had a beautifully cooked steak. Wine was excellent, always a good choice and service was superb. Great to have a restaurant on Samui that residents can go to for a birthday/anniversary treat. And if you're on holiday give it a try, it really is an excellent place.
