Why Bang Po Beach is special ?

The palm-fringed white sands of Bang Por Beach lie on a quiet stretch of the northern coast of Koh Samui, facing towards the neighbouring island of Koh Phangan. The beach itself stretches some 4km between Ban Tai in the east and Bang Por in the west, with beach restaurants an easy stroll along the shore.

Bang Por beach is stunningly beautiful and clean where you can enjoy a variety of water activities. In recent times, Bang Por has received a lot of media attention due to international celebrities; such as David Beckham and Bill Gates, owning homes in here. Additionally, a number of other personalities own luxurious villas here.

What to explore at Bang Po Beach?

Bang Por is also a popular fishing town, so the area boasts some of the best seafood restaurants on the island. Enjoy some delicious authentic Thai dishes at these great restaurants

The calm shallow waters in this part of the Gulf of Thailand offer excellent snorkelling opportunities with shallow coral reefs and many colourful fish within easy reach of the shore.

Quiet and lacking the mass-tourism development found in other areas of the island, there is no noisy nightlife in the immediate vicinity to disturb the tranquillity, and only small neighbourhood shopping outlets.

On an island of this size however, nothing is ever very far away. Just a 5 minute stroll down the beach you will find yourself at Jun Hom beach restaurant offering excellent Thai cuisine. Nightlife in the old fisherman’s village of Bophut is a mere 10 minute drive, and the main tourist centre of Chawaeng just 20 minutes away.

I first came across this bar whilst walking along the beach at Bang Po, my favourite part of Koh Samui. Vela Beach Lounge is situated next to the beach,a quiet stretch of white clean sand, over looking Koh Pang Yang They have ample comfortable despoke sunloungers and shades facing the beach (with bar sevice).I originanally had lunch, a beautiful plate of tapas, and a truly wonderful Mojito, the shaded seating area around the bar is well designed, the staff are freindly, professional and attentive. The following evening my wife and I had cocktails in the bar overlooking the sunset, followed by dinner of paella in the bright and airy restaurant, the food cooked by owner and head chef Ben was excellent. A ver stylish bar and restaurant. I also loved the artwork.

We recently stayed in Bang Po and literally stumbled upon Vela as it was opening after taking a walk along the beach. It's by far the nicest beach bar in the area with comfy cushioned sun lounger beds (all the other bars have broken plastic ones!). The food is tapas style (tapas size portions) and we particularly enjoyed the meatballs and tortilla along with the Russian salad. The mango daquiris are made with fresh sweet local mangoes... and go down a little too well! The owners Ben and Georgina are lovely. Definitely worth a visit if you're on the Island.
