Why Ba Be Lake is special ?
Ba Be Lake (Ba means Three, Bể is from the Tay language word pé, meaning "lake") is the largest natural lake in Vietnam. It is located in Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan Province in the Northeast region of the country. Ba Be Lake is a featured geographical science and is a biodiversity reservoir. It is a part of the Ba Be National Park.
Having been formed approximately 200 million years ago, the lake is surrounded by limestone cliffs, which in turn are covered by primary forests. The lake comprises three zones named Pe Lam, Pe Lu, and Pe Leng. Three rivers, named Nang, Ta Han, and Nam Cuong, are the main inflows of the lake. The Nang river enters the lake through a large waterfall called Dau Dang. In the lake there are also three islands, named An Ma, Khau Cum, and Po Gia Mai (literally "Widow's Island").
What to explore at Ba Be Lake?
For a sightseeing tour of the northeast region, a fantastic place to start is Ba Be National Park in Ba Be District, Bac Kan Province. There is a huge amount to explore here, with a vast variety of flora and fauna, as well as interesting geology and landscapes to discover.
One of the best ways to get a feel for the area on arrival is by boat on one of the three lakes - kayaks for the more adventurous or guided motor boat tours for those who want to relax a little. Ba Be National Park has featured in hundreds of newspapers, magazines, forums and blogs, but nothing can prepare you for experiencing its intoxicating landscapes and clear waters first hand. The lakes have a lot to offer, including waterfalls, rivers, valleys, lakes, and caves all set amidst picturesque landscapes. From Ba Be Lake, tourists can also visit other neighbouring attractions such as Dau Dang Fall, Puong Cave and Tien Pond.
How to get to Ba Be Lake?
Option 1: My Dinh station (10h00) - Cho Don town (16h00) - Bo Lu village (17h00)
-About 8:30 am walk from your hotel to Hanoi city bus stations at the streets "Trần Nhật Duật - Trần Quang Khải - Tràng Tiền - Ngô Quyền - Hai Bà Trưng - Thợ Nhuộm - Điện Điên Phủ" where closest to your hotel.
- A bus No 34 will cross the above places every 10 minutes to collecting you to MY DINH bus station which is about 15 km from Hanoi Old Quarter.
-09:30 am in MY DINH bus station look for a local bus to CHO DON town of Thuong Nga company at gate 33. This is unique one that WILL take you direct all the way to CHO DON via THAI NGUYÊN city and is a red one with number plate 29B11637, leaving about 10:00 Am.
The staffs on the bus will collect your monies one time before stop at CHO DON. Another mini Van of this company also will be accountability take you to Ba Be lake-shore (Ba Be Tourism Centre).
Option 2: Gia Lam station (9h30) - Thai Nguyen station (12h00) - Bo Lu village (17h30)
-About 8:30 am walk from your hotel to Hanoi city bus stations at "No 51 Lý Thái Tổ street, 23 Hàng Tre street, 03 Hàng Muối street or No 81 Trần Nhật Duật" where closest to your hotel.
- A bus No 34 will cross the above places every 10 minutes to collecting you to BẾN XE GIA LÂM (GIA LÂM bus station). which is about 5 km from Hanoi Old Quarter.
-9:20 am In GIA LAM bus station look for a local bus to THAI NGUYEN city. The bus to catch that WILL take you all the way to THAI NGUYÊN is a red one with number plate 30L 6023, leaving about 9.30 am.
-11:45 - 12:00 Arrive at THAI NGUYEN bus station. Hire a motorbike to the Park or pay a substantial extra bus fare.
The bus to catch that WILL take you all the way to Ba Be National Park is a white one with number plate TRUONG GIANG 97B-000.75, leaving about 12.00 Am
12:00 pm catch the above bus from Thai Nguyen bus station. This should take you all the way and you off on BA BE lake shore (Ba Be Tourism Centre).
