Why Ah Loy Thai is special ?

Ah Loy Thai is one of the most popular casual Thai restaurants in Singapore. The original outlet at Shaw Towers has been expanded by merging with a unit next door to hold more fans of Thai foods. This restaurant is a hot spot at Shaw Towers as it offers delicious Thai foods at affordable prices.

Menu is simple, yet it offers equally good dishes: Ah Loy Thai has a very small menu, which could be listed on one page. But it is a good sign in this case. This kind of menu enables the chefs to keep things under control to deliver consistent and equal quality to each dish on offer.

Must try dishes:

Butter Calamari (calamari is deep fried to have a good crunch then coated with butter and spicy chilli sauce).

Pandan Chicken

Tom Yum

Green Curry

Pad Thai

Thai Crispy Mango Chicken

Pineapple Fried Rice

Ah Loy thai is always my favourite when it comes to thai food. It never fails to satisfy my cravings. Love many of their dishes including 1) Stir-fried Red basil leaf 2) Green curry 3) Mango salad 4) Thai Mango crispy chicken.. just to name a few. I love the fragrance, spiciness or sourness which always makes me crave for more. It is often packed full and sometimes me and my husband have to wait for about 45mins before our food are being served. Besides good food, its price is also affordable. For those who are thinking of giving Ah Loy thai a try, I would advice you not to expect too much from their service. It is more of a casual restaurant, with informal service and attitude. But because of their good thai food, we will definitely go back there again :)

We went for Thai Lemon Grass Steamed Fish, requesting for less spicy. The broth was up to standards and immersed with steamed fish and noodles. 3-in-1 much? We also had Thai Milk (Red) Tea which was good, ethically not drowned in ice. The Fried Sweet Potato Leaves are well-cooked but your average stir-fried vegetables. 2 dishes and rice are sufficient, even though the waitress tried to coax us to getting more.

Good quality and value for money meal! The "traditional" dishes like papaya salad, green curry, Tom yum soup are great! But don't forget to try the less known dishes like the crispy mango chicken!

Been scrolling through my bookmarks of what to try and remembered about this place (high yelp rating and church's mates comments). Came here around 12.30pm. Surprisingly, parking was pretty easy to find but not this place. Had to actually ask for direction as I was new to the building. It is located somewhere near to the back of the first floor (where all food places are). When you see the information booth, face to the right and follow along the pathways. Walk down the stairs, turn left, go straight and it is located on the right side. There is two sections for dining area. One is with the name of the restaurant on top of the open dining area and the other one is exactly the opposite of Tom's Palette. Was starting to get crowded when I arrive so was given the latter seating area. Before coming here, I wanted to get a Pad Thai, Butter Calamari and my mother chimed in Pineapple Fried Rice. Only flipped the menu quickly and my mother was attracted to the Pandan Chicken and so we added that on our list of what to get. For drink, I ordered Lemongrass drink that previous yelpers had commented. The Pineapple fried rice came first. The food color presentation was rather dull and it doesn't look appetizing. But.. it was delicious. The dish was flavorful and was given quite a good portion for 3. They even gave quite a handful of medium sized prawns. Second dish to arrive was the buttery calamari. For this dish, it is definitely colorful and photo worthy. The fried calamaris are also stacked nicely on the oval-shaped plate. On the side, there was also shredded green mango. Taste wise, the sauce was very addictive. It has fruity taste to it and the butter was melting in the mouth. The calamari was also crunchy and chewy. Definitely one of the most recommended dish to try out here. The pad thai came next. It took awhile before they are served and had to ask them whether the dish is coming as it was quite a break in between. Food presentation wasn't that nice either as some of the ingredients besides the peanuts are mixed before we do the mixing. For pad thai, I squeezed some lime off the dish. What it lacked off was the chill with its seeds on the side (you can probably find it in one of the pushcarts filled with empty plates). It was definitely one of the best Pad Thai in Singapore. Not greasy and the portion can be shared within groups of two or three. Pandan chicken came last. I also realized that most table has this dish last. The chicken was wrapped in Pandan leaves and first bite, tender and juicy. The flavor did not disappear within either. I just realized that it was one of the best dishes here as most of the Yelp users are recommending. The portion of the chicken came in 4. Overall, price wise is considered to be the most budget friendly and reasonable among the Thai restaurants I've been to so far. Just take note on the peak hours :)
